X-men Origins: Wolverine

I finally saw Wolverine over the long weekend, and I was pleasantly surprised. I’d heard mixed reviews about it, so I was a little skeptic. Darn those reviewers for giving me pres-conceptions! I’m glad that it was good, because I’ve enjoyed the whole X-Men series of films.

The purpose of this movie is to introduce people to Wolverine and to properly inform us of his history. I for one had no clue that Sabertooth was his brother. That surprised me. The effects of this movie were  quite amazing. Nowadays, every film seems to have great effects, so we’ve gotten immune to noticing just how cool these effects can be. With Wolverine there were a few ‘whoa cool’ out loud moments for us. This doesn’t happen often.

I liked Liev Schreiber as Sabertooth/Victor Creed. I’m not used to seeing him as a villain, but he does a really great job. They never actually refer to him Sabertooth in this film so he must develop that later in life. (Mutant life)

Hello Hugh Jackman! That man was so ripped in this film; I couldn’t take my eyes off him. My husband kept saying that he must have done steroids for this movie, but I refuse to believe that.  Aside from his obvious positive attributes, Hugh Jackman was right into character for this film. I felt bad for him because he kept getting screwed over. I’m happy I now know his love story now, and how he got his name, Wolverine.

Ryan Reynolds! I had no clue he was in this movie until I started watching it. He did very well with his swords  ;)

Overall, I learned quite a bit about X-Men considering I’ve only watched the movies and have never followed the cartoons or comic books. I hope they do additional ‘origins’ movies for some of the other interesting characters, like Cyclops (we see him a little here) or Storm.

It was a good blockbuster that was a little rougher around the edges than previous X-Men films. Watch it!
